Three modernist mid-length poems made of juxtaposed small fragments of omniscience (limited and not), dialogue, and interior monologue (with some defamiliarizing academic and nautical language) convey temporal near simultaneity and interpenetration with (in one half of one of them) metaphysical implications. If you have ever attended a gathering akin to an academic conference you will find yourself immersed in familiar linguistic territory.

Praise for Here Away:

“Finally, a party you can attend without having to go to it. Here Away gives you the prismatic eye of a fly on the wall. A fly who rides a boom through the room, picking up every exchange, every bon mot and not so bon mot, every unvoiced if-you-can’t-say-something-nice, every lexical frisson, every Jubjub and futtock. While we’re busy trying to find the words, language delivers more than we dreamed.” —Susan Holbrook, author of Joy is So Exhausting

Reviews:

“Each poem follows a similar style of short, choppy quotes and riffs interspersed with ironic observations. Many of the entries are structured as too-good-to-be-true clips from conversations, the best jokes from a conversation kind of thing.” —Gregory Betts for Journal of Canadian Poetry
